GSCC in the News - Dec. 20
The Georgia Street Community Collective was featured in an Associated Press article on Dec. 20, 2008 about Detroit's blues extending past the auto industry.
We were lucky to have one of the writers, Corey Williams, come and visit the Garden and future Community Center and Market in October. He talked extensively with Cub and then sent a photographer to our last work day where we pulled the tin ceiling down in the market.

For those who aren't familiar with the Associated Press, it's the creme de la creme of the global news agencies. So, for the AP to include us in a story is quite a feat & honor. And the amazing part is when the AP runs a story, it goes all over the world on the news wire. We got picked up by the International Herald Tribune, which is the New York Times' global paper, MSNBC, papers all across the US and the story was the top story on Yahoo's main page at 9 pm on the 20th. Yahoo Malaysia even picked it up.

Detroit community group holds holiday dinner for homeless
Santiago Esparza / The Detroit News
DETROIT -- The Georgia Street Community Collective will host its first annual Holiday Dinner from 5-9 p.m. today at Christ World Outreach Ministries' annex, 8925 Holcomb.
The grass roots, community-based organization operates on the city's east side and hopes the dinner gives members a chance to meet people in the community they do not already know. The dinner is for people who are homeless in the area bounded by Gratiot, Harper and Van Dyke avenues and Grinnell Street.
The group's officials said the collective started as a community garden and grew into a neighborhood organization.
In 2009, the collective will begin a project in which it will rehabilitate an area building into a neighborhood store and community center.

The article at first was a misquote. We were not actually feeding the homeless at first, but we had so much food leftover we ended up taking it to a homeless shelter.

We have a tentative date for a workday. I know people have to work but if you can make it come on by. Tuesday Oct, 28th Starting at 12:00pm. We wont be doing a lot of demo, just cleaning out the junk so we can start getting some estimates. Greening of Detroit awards Georgia St. Garden a Hoop House
Hello all. Just found out today that the garden was awarded a hoop house from The Greening of Detroit. I can extend the growing season. I plan on planting some spinach, some more lettuce and some all greens mix. This also means I can start planting a little earlier.
